Kanawha Christian School (KCS) is a nonprofit, independent educational service, owned and directed by an Association of parents and friends of Christian education. Governed by a School Board selected at the start of each academic year, its administration ensures that students are treated as God’s unique and wonderful creation, designed and supported by the Spirit to fulfill the will of God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
Excellence in Christian Education
We believe that KCS exists to provide a Christ-centered environment for the pursuit of excellence in education, discipling each student to conform to the image of Jesus Christ, and to make Jesus their Lord in every life situation. Our every effort is – by the grace of God – to lead each student to a personal commitment to the Lordship of Jesus Christ, and to encourage each student top maximize his/her God-given potential by pursuing excellence in spiritual growth, academics, athletics and physical fitness, fine and performing arts, and vocational arts toward fruitful service to his/her community, the Church, and the work of the kingdom prescribed by God.
We further believe that a child’s faith blossoms when school, family, and church partner with one another. As such, KCS functions as an extension of the Christian home, providing nurturing, training, and discipling in the Word of God – each of which providing the basis for the physical, academic, and spiritual development of each child that participates in our academic programs. We work tirelessly to “…train up a child in the way he should go: [so that] when he is old, he will not depart from it” (Prov. 22:6). In this, we seek to provide Christian education that helps a child discover God’s perfect plan and purpose for their life. With the Word of God as our standard of developing Godly character and instilling Biblical principles throughout all our core educational programs, our collective goal is to partner with parents to build and strengthen children that make a positive contribution to society and be effective “…witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth” (Acts 1:8b).
Our curriculum and teachings, regardless of subject matter, are firmly anchored in the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments, with the conviction and trust necessary for faith these are the very words and teachings of God the Father: inspired, inerrant, and infallible for all life and practice.
Teachers as Role Models
Acknowledging the Bible as the basis for all truth and life values, KCS maintains high standards by employing educators whose commitment is to model as well as teach Christ-like character qualities to their students. In fact, the entire student body is influences by this positive and submissive attitude, offered in a family-like atmosphere of personal, caring relationships.
Participating with Parents
Believing that education is first the responsibility of parents, KCS encourages active participation by the parents in the school’s academic and extra-curricular life. Parents accompany our students on field trips, class trips, and serve as resource personnel in the classroom. Each parent is expected to contribute no less than four (4) hours per month in school-related projects and activities to help lower tuition costs and operational expenses.
